International Learning Community

You have reached the home page of the International Learning Community at Austin Peay State University. This page is designed to provide information for students who are studying foreign languages.

In the Fall semester of 2007, a group of APSU students living on campus has been meeting weekly to practice their languages and learn about other cultures through films, games, pictures, and international food.  Some past activities include

  • making French crêpes
  • learning the hispanic game Perudo (also known as “Liar’s Dice;” featured in Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest)
  • watching Der Tunnel, a German film about escaping from East Berlin in the early 1960’s
  • speaking our languages with each other in an informal setting
  • attending a presentation by Atlanta actors and translators on Bernard-Marie Koltès

Beginning Fall 2008 the group now lives in Meacham.  A small scholarship will reduce the housing fee for all students selected to participate.  Students will participate in similar activities through a one-credit course called International Learning Community.
