Institute for Global Security Studies
Welcome to the Institute for Global Security Studies (Global Security, for short). I'm the Director, Dr. Thomas Riley O'Connor (Tom) and I work on the APSU Ft. Campbell facility in Room 214 at 931-221-1477 with email firstname.lastname@example.org and I regularly teach our foundation course, GSS2010 (Introduction to Global Security) as well courses in Criminal Justice and Public Management (CRJ & CRJ). The Minor in Global Security has become somewhat popular since it was rolled out in 2007, and at any given time, we service about 25 students every semester on the main campus and about 15 per semester on the Ft. Campbell campus. The Institute exists to support and help synergize the efforts of APSU faculty and visiting faculty in optimizing the focus and impact of their research, teaching, and service. The Institute holds an annual symposium every Summer on key issues. Past symposiums were on South Asia, Afghanistan, Economic Warfare, Cybercrime, and Nuclear proliferation. The Institute also assists with finding donors, grant providers, publishers, and travel for global security related work. Students in this minor enjoy the benefits of interacting with internationally-renowned scholars and the possibilities of exciting and challenging career opportunities with global organizations and movements.
