Safety
Austin Peay's Occupational Safety and
Health Policy (4:005)
seeks to assure safe and healthy working conditions for the entire University
community. The director of physical plant, under the general supervision of the
vice president of finance and administration, is designated coordinator for
campus programs. A copy of the APSU TOSHA Handbook can be found in the offices
of each senior administrator and in the University library.
Security
Austin Peay State University Department of Public Safety/Campus Police is a 24-hour, 365-day-a-year law enforcement agency.
The Campus Police station, located in the Shasteen Building, is open for walk-in
service or calls for service by telephone. The department's dispatcher can
be reached at 931-221-7786 for both on or off campus. On campus emergency
calls should be made by dialing 4848.
All officers are academy trained and certified by the
Tennessee Peace Officer's Standard Training Commission (POST) and must meet the
same requirements as all law enforcement officers in the state. The
department accomplishes it's mission through excellence in law enforcement,
safety, security and traffic management. Officers patrol the campus by
automobile, bicycle and on foot. Campus Police work closely with all city,
county, state and federal agencies to insure the safety of all Austin Peay
faculty, staff, students and visitors. The Department of Public
Safety/Campus Police dispatcher's are certified through the state of Tennessee
and must meet stringent requirements to achieve this certification. There
is a dispatcher on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
All Public Safety/Campus Police staff strive to meet the
needs of the many diverse groups of the university. It is the goal of the
department to maintain and provide a safety and secure environment that is
conducive to learning, not only in the classroom, but also in the university
community. It is the department's goal to enforce the laws of the State of
Tennessee, the rules and regulations of Austin Peay State University, to render
aid and assistance without regard for nationality, race, creed, color or gender.
