Honors Program Opportunities

Honors Program students are not limited to receiving honors credit through specialized sections of academic courses. They also earn honors credit hours through various opportunities and experiences that allow for individual and intellectual growth. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

I. Honors Contracts

Students can earn honors credit hours by entering into an agreement or contract with an instructor that requires them to complete specialized projects and assignments that are not otherwise assigned in non-honors course sections . For more information, contact Dr. Kenney at kenneym@apsu.edu.

2. Honors Thesis

Students can earn three honors credit hours by taking HON 4050 and writing an honors thesis. For more information, contact Dr. Kenney at kenneym@apsu.edu. Honors Program students typically take this course in the fall semester of their final year at Austin Peay.

3. Undergraduate Research

The Office of Student Research and Innovation is designed to connect APSU undergraduates with opportunities to conduct research and creative activity.  For more information about such opportunities, please visit http://www.apsu.edu/osri/.

4. Study Abroad

Studying abroad isn’t just taking a trip.  It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the world and gain resume-building experience while earning honors credit hours. There are various study abroad excursions throughout the year that range from a few weeks to a full year. These opportunities can be found through Austin Peay's Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange at http://www.apsu.edu/study-abroad-exchange/index.php.

5. Service-Learning Courses

Service-learning courses are offered in a variety of disciplines and require that students engage in academic service learning that includes completing service hours throughout the semester. To obtain a list of service-learning courses, contact Ms. Alexandra Wills, Austin Peay's director of Service Learning and Civic Engagement, at willsa@apsu.edu.
