History at APSU

The Department of History and Philosophy offers a variety choices for students interested in history.

Bachelor's Degrees

The Department offers BA and BS degrees in History and History Education.

Major in History

The Department of History and Philosophy requires 33 hours for the completion of a degree in history. These include:

  • the World History (HIST 1210/1220) sequence (6 hours)
  • the US History (HIST 2010/2020) sequence (6 hours)
    (note, Tennessee History (HIST 2030) may be substituted for 3 hours)
  • the methods course (HIST 2999)
  • two upper division courses (3000s or 4000s) in US History (6 hours)
  • two upper division courses (3000s or 4000s) in non-US History (6 hours)
  • two upper division courses (3000s or 4000s) as electives in any field (6 hours)
  • Capstone (HIST 4999) (3 hours)

Major in History Education

Minors

The Department offers a minor in History. The Department also offers courses towards the minor in Asian Studies.

Minor in History

The Department of History and Philosophy requires 21 hours for the completion of a minor in History. These include:

  • the World History (HIST 1210/1220) sequence (6 hours)
  • the US History (HIST 2010/2020) sequence (6 hours)
    (note, Tennessee History (HIST 2030) may be substituted for 3 hours)
  • three upper division courses (3000s or 4000s) as electives in any field (9 hours)
