Remember to turn off the faucet while you’re brushing your teeth, applying makeup, or shaving. The water saved during one instance of brushing your teeth is about two gallons! Keep in mind, there is no new water!
Don't miss APSU's Earth Day Celebration, Thursday, April 19th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Morgan University Center Plaza.
To save printer paper and ink, first of all, check the length of your document--you may think it's one page and it's 30! Second, mark only the portion you need and then choose "Print Selection" instead of "Print All." Third, if you must print the entire document, look for the option that will allow you to print more than one page per sheet of paper (page one will print on the left half of a landscaped sheet and page two will print on the right half).
Spring is here and so is the urge to give your surroundings a facelift. If you decide to replace furnishings that are still useable or to clean out your garage of stuff, please consider donating the items to Habitat for Humanity RESTORE shop, Goodwill or the Salvation Army. In addition, if you're having a large crowd for Easter and need extra dining chairs, check out the RESTORE shop!
Make sure you pitch your trash in garbage containers and not in the recycle bins. Trash in recycle containers may “contaminate” the recyclables. If you throw something that doesn’t belong in a recycling container (for instance, a cup of coffee in a bin of paper to be recycled), the entire contents will have to be thrown away and not recycled.
Please see the link below for the Recycle Pickup Schedule (bins are emptied between 3-10 p.m. on the days listed). If you have a large amount of paper to be picked up, please call Kay Stanley at 7458. For pickup of recycling other than paper, please contact Bill Carroll at bcarroll@gcaservices.com

If you have questions, please call Bi-County Waste Management at 931-648-5751.
Recycle as much paper as possible. On average, paper can be recycled 7 times before the fibers become too short to be reused. Always buy paper that has at least 30% post-consumer recycled fiber content for home use, and encourage the purchase of greener paper at your office or school, too. (Bonus tip: used envelopes are great for grocery lists, and they come with a holder for coupons!)
House plants offset toxic indoor chemicals and help raise the standards of air quality inside the home or office. Here are suggestions for air purifying plants: Boston Fern, Dwarf Date Palm, Bamboo palm, Rubber Plant, Ficus, Dragon Tree, English Ivy and Airplane or Spider Plant.
Instead of using bright overhead lights, use just a task light to illuminate your work area. Having less ambient light also means less glare on your computer monitor.
Tired of schlepping 15 plastic bags of groceries home—only to have them split and spill before you reach your front door? Try using non-throw-away bags! Most stores sell them. They last several years, hold up to five times as much as plastic bags and save on the clutter of disposable bags. Just don’t forget to store them in your vehicle so they are where you need them when you need them!
Instead of using commercial fabric softener, add ¼ cup white vinegar to your washer’s rinse cycle. If you aren’t able to hang clothes outdoors to dry, buy a wooden drying rack and hang clothes on a patio, balcony, or near an open window.
