Kappa Sigma was founded in Charlottesville, Virginia on December 10, 1869 with the Mu-Tau chapter at Austin Peay State University being founded on October 19, 1985. Kappa Sigma currently has 235 active chapters and 32 colonies with 13,500 undergraduate brothers and 245,000 overall members. For the past 7 years, Kappa Sigma has broken all recruiting records set by any other fraternity.
Kappa Sigma is focused upon the Four Pillars of FELLOWSHIP, LEADERSHIP, SCHOLARSHIP and SERVICE. One of the most important things that Kappa Sigma encourages is Scholarship. Kappa Sigma has the oldest continuous endowment fund which gives around $300,000 in scholarships to undergraduate brothers every year. In fact, Mu-Tau Chapter was the biggest receiver of scholarships in our district; the men of Mu Tau received over $5,000 total in scholarships. Service is also an important aspect to Kappa Sigma. Kappa Sigma has constantly led other fraternities in the number of community service hours and philanthropy donations every year. Our main philanthropy, The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, donates money to injured veterans. Brotherhood is also another major point Kappa Sigma stresses. The fellowship, fun and personal growth of a Kappa Sigma is unmatched by any fraternity. One of Mu-Tau's biggest missions is to form a brotherhood that cannot be replicated nor matched by any other fraternity. Take the lead. In Kappa Sigma, Brothers learn to get involved in their communities and take the lead when something needs to be done. Countless Brothers, including Senators, Governors and CEOs, have said Kappa Sigma gave them the leadership skills they needed to succeed.
As a values-based men's fraternity, Kappa Sigma strictly forbids hazing and fosters meaningful college experiences by offering progressive membership development and pledge education.
