Kappa Sigma

Kappa Sigma is the largest college social fraternity with 320+ chapters and colonies in the United States and Canada, and 21,000+ undergraduate members. The fraternity’s spiritual founding took place in Bologna, Italy in the year 1400 when a group of students banded together for mutual protection against a corrupt governor of the city and his bands of robbers. Since its founding in 1400, it expanded across Europe until one of the original founders of American Kappa Sigma discovered, and introduced, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity in North America. Kappa Sigma was founded at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia on December 10, 1869 with the Mu-Tau chapter at Austin Peay State University being founded on October 19, 1985.

The Kappa Sigma Fraternity is returning to Austin Peay State University’s campus during the Fall 2017 semester! Starting a new chapter is a unique experience that less than 1% of Kappa Sigma Initiates can say they have accomplished. As a Founding Father of Kappa Sigma you will have numerous opportunities. It is a blank slate and the chance to build a fraternity from the ground up. This is an opportunity to join an organization on the ground level, as equals, and have your voice heard right away. There will be immediate opportunities for leadership, chances to contribute to the local area through community service, philanthropy events, and social opportunities. By becoming a Founding Father of the Mu-Tau Chapter of Kappa Sigma, you will have the opportunity to leave your legacy in the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, as well as on the APSU campus.

Kappa Sigma is focused on its four pillars, which are Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service. With an emphasis on these four pillars, and appropriate programming, we strive to allow our undergraduate members to reach their fullest potential and achieve their expressed wish, which is to become a better man. As a values-based men’s fraternity, Kappa Sigma strictly forbids hazing and fosters meaningful college experiences by offering progressive membership development and pledge education. Kappa Sigma also boasts the oldest endowment fund in the fraternal world and has provided undergraduate members with $4.7 million+ in scholarships since its inception in 1919.

We invite you to take part in our recolonization effort to once again establish our Mu-Tau Chapter on the APSU Campus. By taking advantage of this opportunity, you have the chance to come back to campus many years after graduation, look on the chapter’s charter, and see your name listed as a Founding Father who put in the time and effort to bring back this chapter and its history of excellence! Feel free to reach out with any questions about the fraternity, the colonization process, and/or what your role could be in it!
