Accreditation

   Austin Peay State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s and education specialist degrees. Inquires to the Commission on Colleges should only be related to accreditation status and not to general admission information.  In addition, the teacher preparation programs of the University are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education for the preparation of elementary and secondary teachers through the master’s degree level. Preparation programs for elementary and secondary principals and supervisors, school counselors, and school psychologists are also accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education at the master’s degree level. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree is approved by the Tennessee Department of Health – Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The Medical Technology program is accredited by the National Accrediting Association for Laboratory Science. The University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. All baccalaureate programs in Art are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The Chemistry program is approved by the American Chemical Society. The School of Business has established as an objective additional accreditation by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business.
     Accreditation assures that the student is enrolled at an institution approved by the region’s accrediting associations. Credits earned at Austin Peay State University may be submitted to other accredited institutions of higher learning and be accepted, if they are appropriate to the designated curriculum. Accreditation also means that the degree earned at the University is fully recognized throughout the nation.
