In the
aftermath of the many challenges faced by emergency management
agencies during and after the recent hurricanes in the Gulf States,
the state and local Emergency Management organizations have asked
Austin Peay State University’s Institute for Global Security Studies
and Center for Extended and Distance Education to provide a tiered
training program leading to certification for Emergency Management.
-
The goal of the program is to help develop a cadre of
well-trained, experienced emergency management leaders in
Tennessee.
-
The working EM professionals who initially requested
the creation of this type of certificate program feel it is
imperative that a standard skill set be developed for all emergency
managers and that all emergency management personnel be trained to
provide the optimum response in a disaster situation.
-
Training will be offered both locally and regionally
to better develop emergency management capabilities statewide.
Through APSU’s Emergency Management
Certificate program, emergency management professionals gain the
skills needed to respond quickly and effectively in emergency
situations. Students who complete all four levels of the program
also receive a Mastery Certificate in Emergency Management.
Two of the program’s four certification levels are offered during
spring of 2006, with levels 3 and 4 beginning in fall 2006.
To register for the program, contact your training coordinator or
call APSU’s Center for Extended and Distance Education at (931)
221-7816.
