Each year, Austin Peay State University’s TRiO programs assist almost 2,000 high school students, adults and veterans in their academic pursuits. Receiving almost $1.5 million in annual funding from the U.S. Department of Education, TRiO offers support to low-income, first-generation and adult students through five programs: High School Upward Bound, Veterans Upward Bound, Tri-County Upward Bound, Student Support Services and the Educational Opportunity Center.
High School Upward Bound serves Montgomery County students planning to enroll at a four-year college or university by offering tutoring, testing, counseling and cultural enrichment activities.
Tri-County Upward Bound provides the same services to students in Cheatham, Houston and Stewart counties.
Veterans Upward Bound provides refresher courses for college-bound veterans as they prepare to take the GED or enroll in a college or technical school.
Student Support Services provides academic and personal support for APSU students, along with exposure to cultural events.
The Educational Opportunity Center assists adults pursuing post-secondary education or technical training.
