Program Summary: As a Phlebotomy Technician the laboratory relies on you to collect quality samples from the patient to produce quality laboratory results. To do this, a phlebotomy technician must create an atmosphere of trust and confidence with patients while drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and reliable manner. This 88 hour course is intended for those who have no experience and want to become employed as a Phlebotomy Technician in a clinical laboratory or public health department setting. Students work in teams practicing on one another. The course includes 48 hours of Classroom training and a 40 hour externship to provide you with a complete learning experience.
Community Job Survey: Starting pay $12-21 per hour. The fastest growth in this field is expected in independent medical laboratories as hospitals continue to send a greater amount of their lab work to off-site facilities. Demand for qualified professionals continues to increase dramatically.
Course Fee: $3150.00 includes books, course supplies, externship, and a course certificate of completion.

Certification: Upon successful completion of the program graduates will receive a certificate. Graduates will be eligible to apply for certification as a Phlebotomy Technician and be prepared to take the national exam.
Schedule: Classes are conveniently scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday evenings Phlebotomy externships are coordinated by Boston Reed College.
Pre-requisites: Minimum 18 years of age and high school completion or its equivalent. Students need competency in, or completion of a basic computer operations course. Students will be required to have access to the Internet, printing capabilities and an email address. There will be an English pre-assessment test administered on the first class meeting to assure student success. Prior to placement in an externship, students will need to show proof of completion of CPR for the Healthcare Provider course, a health examination including TB testing and submission of a resume.
