- All new students take an English language proficiency test just before the start of each term. This test measures your general English language skills. It is just one tool which the ESL coordinator and instructors use to determine level placement.
- A final progress test is given at the end of each 7-week term to measure progress.This test is similiar to the proficiency test given and is used in additional with class grades to determine level completion (progress to next level).
TOEFL and IELTS Testing:
APSU and the ESL Institute do not offer TOEFL or IELTS testing on campus. Resources and practice tests are available for self-study in the language lab.

- Information about the IELTS: www.ielts.org (closest testing center is in Murfreesboro, TN, about 2 hours from APSU)
International students applying to study at APSU may be able to take the COMPASS test in place of the ACT or SAT. For more information or to register for COMPASS testing on campus, please see the APSU Testing Center website.
