The Department of Teaching and Learning welcomes you to a supportive environment in which you will be supported and nurtured as you complete your coursework and activities.  We applaud you on a choice that reflects commitment on your part and a dedication to the human condition and welfare of children.  You have chosen a vocation that will bring many rewards and gratification as your teaching career unfolds.

In this department you will have the opportunity to interact in classes with peers who are pursuing similar licenses and with instructors who have been classroom teachers, principals, and curriculum supervisors.  All of our professional educators have had extensive classroom teaching experience.  Throughout your educational program you will have the opportunity to work in public schools during field placements with classroom practicioners on various levels and in varied settings.  The College of Education at Austin Peay State University has a enduring reputation for training teachers.  Our programs and courses offer an intimate setting with sophistication of a global nature in terms of the interaction opportunities that you will have with fellow students.  Once again, welcome to the Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education at Austin Peay State University.  If I can assist you in any way during your journey do not hesitate to contact me.

A teacher's purpose is not to create students in his own image, but to develop students who can create their own image.
