Prospective Students

Are you interested in a career in education? Would you like to learn more about becoming a teacher, a principal or reading specialist? Or would you like information about programs in other areas, such as educational technology? Would you like to advance your teaching skills and become a more effective teacher? At APSU, we can help you meet your needs.

The faculty in the College of Education believe that all children deserve the highest quality teachers and education professionals, and it is those professional educators we seek to prepare. We are committed to helping you reach your goals while providing skilled professionals for our schools. Our theme, Preparing Professionals through Standards-Based Practices emphasizes our commitment to providing professionals with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to impact student lives.

Courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels are small and interactive. Undergraduate courses generally enroll fewer than 35 students and graduate courses are rarely larger than 25 students. Students are expected to take an active role in their learning, including interactive discussion boards, Web-based activities, supplemental readings and class discussion.

At the graduate level, we encourage all students to learn research methods to enable them to become reflective practitioners of their chosen profession. Professionals with strong research credentials know how to keep track of and study what they do in order to use the data they gather to inform and improve their practice.

The College of Education offers a wide variety of programs at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Programs leading to licensure are available in twenty teaching fields. Students can earn initial license at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
