Required Testing in Education

The following tests may be required:
   Praxis I (PPST)
   Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
   Principles of Learning & Teaching (PLT)
   Praxis II (Specialty test)

  
Required prior to completion of Milestone II:

  • PPST (Pre-Professional Skills Test*) or ACT or SAT or GRE (for Post-Bachelor students)

    • The traditional PPST is offered several times throughout the year at APSU.

    • The computer based (CBT) PPST is administered through the Prometric Testing Center in Nashville (615-860-9111) and Clarksville (931-647-2003) by appointment only.

*An undergraduate student may substitute an ACT of 22, or an SAT of 1020. The test must be less than 5 years old and verification of the score must be presented to the Certification Office.

NOTE:
Passing scores must be taken prior to being accepted for Student Teaching.

  • Principles of Learning & Teaching (PLT) - subtest of the NTE Specialty Area Exam in the major:

    • Student certifying K-8 take Principles of Learning & Teaching Subtest K-6

    • Students certifying 5-8 take Principles of Learning & Teaching Subtest 5-9

    • Student certifying grade K-12 can take either the Principles of Learning & Teaching K-6, 5-9, or 7-12 version of the Principles of Teaching & Learning Subtest.

    • Students certifying secondary 7-12 should take Principles of Learning & Teaching 7-12 Subtest.

For undergraduate students, the following test scores are acceptable for Provisional Admission if they are not older than five (5) years old. (Verification of these test scores is required.)
