Appeal Process for Teacher Education

Students who do not meet all requirements for provisional or full admission to Teacher Education have the option of appealing for a waiver of one or more of the requirements. However, in most cases, appeals will not be approved if more than one requirement is not met.

To begin the appeal process each student must submit a transcript and a completed Appeals Application Form* as soon as possible (appeals will not be considered unless turned in at least one week before the first day of classes of any given semester). The completed form, a copy of test scores, and transcript should be turned in to the Certification Analyst in Claxton 207.

All decisions regarding appeals will be formally made by the Screening/Appeals Committee of the School of Education. Subsequent to the committee's action, students may consult with the Director of the School of Education regarding problems and/or concerns with the appeal process.
*Download Adobe Acrobat if you can not read this form.

Appeal Process for the PPST

If a student cannot achieve a passing score on all subtests of the PPST after taking it twice, the student may appeal for an exception to this provisional admission requirement if all of the following conditions are met:

  1. The appealed PPST subtest score cannot vary more than 3% (5 points) from the acceptable minimum score.

  2. The student must meet the minimum cut-off scores for two of the three subtests.

  3. Students who are more than one point from passing must meet the following requirements:

GPA of 2.75
If appealing the READING or WRITING TEST, the
student must have at least a 'B'
average in English 1010 and 1020.
If appealing the MATHEMATICS TEST,
the student must have a 'B' average
      in all required mathematics courses
      in the core curriculum.
All the above courses must be taken
     at an accredited college.

  1. Students MUST have taken all relevant core courses as described above for appeals to be considered.

  2. Students who have the required grade point averages and the required grades in specified courses may be approved by the Director of the School of Education without further committee action.
