Add-on
Endorsement Procedure
The
following is the procedure Austin
Peay State University will follow
when evaluating a licensed teacher’s
request for an add-on endorsement.
APSU
will comply with the semester hour
limits established by the State
Board of Education.
Candidates for an add-on
endorsement will be required to
present to the Licensure Office in
the School of Education the
following :
An official transcript of all
prior college/university
coursework.
A copy of a current teaching
license from the State of
Tennessee
A portfolio that delineates the
candidate’s professional
experiences, a copy of the most
recent evaluation by an
instructional
supervisor/principal, and a letter
from the candidate’s employer or
employer representative verifying
the teaching competence of the
candidate.
The
licensure office will conduct a
preliminary evaluation of the
credentials of the candidate. It
should be noted that academic
departments have established a
recommended set of courses the
department deems essential to
teach a particular subject/area.
The licensure office will evaluate
the candidate’s transcript based
on the list of courses submitted
for the licensure area in
question. Candidates who submit
course work that is over five
years old are encouraged to
consider updating his/her
knowledge of the subject matter
area to increase his/her chances
of passing required PRAXIS II
licensure examinations. In some
cases, after a complete evaluation
by the Director of Teacher
Education, this may be required.
After
the licensure office has completed
the preliminary evaluation, the
candidate will meet with the
Director of Teacher Education for
a final evaluation. The candidate
may provide any additional
information deemed worthy of
consideration regarding the
candidate’s add-on endorsement
plan. At this point in the
procedure, a candidate will be
notified if a field experience
will be required in addition to
any prescribed course work.
The
licensure office will notify the
State Department of Education’s
Office of Teacher Licensure of the
candidate’s successful completion
of the prescribed course work
and/or field experience. The
candidate will complete the
necessary form for obtaining the
add-on endorsement and provide an
official transcript of the add-on
endorsement course work for
submission the State.
