There has never
been a better time to invest in the
future of Austin Peay and its
students. This year, we launched the
Governor's School for Computational
Physics and added a new master's
degree in social work. We now are
seeking final approval for APSU's
first doctoral program - the Ed.D.
Add to these academic achievements
our re-entry into OVC scholarship
football under the coaching of Rick
Christophel (with a 7-4 record the
first season!) and an OVC men's
basketball championship guided by
coach Dave Loos and a trip to the
NCAA tournament. These successes
would not be possible without the
generous support of Austin Peay's
alumni and friends, many of whom
I've come to know and appreciate in
my first year as president of APSU.
The path to Austin
Peay's future is paved, in significant part, by the kind
of support we have seen this year. In the coming years,
I hope this support will allow more talented students to
pursue their education at APSU with the air of
scholarships, provide for the expansion of our Honors
Program and the creation of an Honors house as well as
the creation of a Teaching and Learning Center, give us
the resources to encourage our faculty to pursue
research opportunities with will enrich their teaching
and increase the University's academic reputation and
strengthen our already successful athletic programs.
If you have not yet
become a regular contributor to Austin Peay, I wish you
would take that step. Great universities are measured in
part by the breadth of their support by alumni, and so
this year, we will be reaching out to new alums who have
not yet become regular supporters to encourage them to
join a winning team.
For all of those
recognized in the donor list, I offer the University's
most heartfelt gratitude. Your contributions are
allowing us to press forward at every level of our
activities. And for those of you who have not joined
this number, there is not better time to begin!

President Emeritus Sherry Hoppe
Why a Foundation? It is crucial that Austin Peay secure
additional financial support from the private sector in
order to ensure the highest level of excellence in all
academic, research and service programs. The Foundation
provides the structure through which the University can
work directly with special volunteers and community
leaders to enhance the financial well being of the
University. The Foundation's purpose is to financially
support the University.
The
Foundation is a separate entity and is chartered by the
state, with the authority to receive private gifts in
support of the University. Through its executive
committee, the Foundation makes its own policy
decisions. The University provides administrative
support to the Foundation.
The Austin Peay
executive director for University Advancement serves as the executive
director of the Austin Peay Foundation and is an ex-officio member
of the executive committee. The officers of the foundation are:
chair, president, two vice presidents,
treasurer, secretary, general counsel and executive director. The
officers serve as members of the executive committee, along with no
less than six additional members who are selected annually by the
Foundation president.
The chair of the
Foundation presides at all meetings of the board. The president is
the CEO of the Foundation. The president presides at meetings of the
executive committee and appoints all committees.
