Matthew Burns

Matthew Burns joined the Community School of the Arts as Coordinator in January of 2012. In this role, he is responsible for the day to day operations of the CSA, hiring instructors, attracting students, and interacting with the Clarksville arts and business communities. He is also an adjunct member of the APSU Music Department.

Mr. Burns comes to the CSA after a successful career for over twelve years as an elementary music teacher and choral director in middle Tennessee. During this tenure he also chaired several committees and organized events, fundraisers, and professional development for area music teachers. This experience in public school music provided the opportunity to develop a great relationship with the arts education organizations in middle TN such as Nashville Opera, the Nashville Symphony, and the Nashville Ballet.

In addition to his public school experience, Mr. Burns has been in demand as a drum major instructor throughout west and middle TN for over 20 years and has served as a drum major adjudicator at marching band competitions. He has also taught private horn and voice. Prior to his move to Clarksville, he served as Music Director for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Union City, TN. More recently, he served as Children's Choir Director at Trinity Episcopal Church in Clarksville.

A native of Tennessee, Mr. Burns earned his bachelor's in Music Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin, a master's in Music Education from Austin Peay State University, and is certified in the Orff-Schulwerk method of music education from Belmont University.

In his time away from the CSA, Mr. Burns enjoys spending time with friends and family, animals and animal rights, cooking, and riding motorcycles.
