Marlaina Seay holds an MFA in Scenography (set, light, and costume design for the theatre). She has been teaching technical and design classes to undergraduates since 2003 (along with theatre history, dramatic literature, and theatre appreciation). She has taught at Middle Tennessee State University, North Greenville University, Lynchburg College, and The Academy of Fine Arts’ Encore (a summer theatre program for middle school students). Among her credits, she’s designed Into the Woods, The Merry Wives of Windsor (the opera), and Seussical. Marlaina has designed scenery and lighting at several professional and community theatres in Virginia, South Carolina, and on occasion Alabama.
Marlaina and her husband Todd have five daughters, whose ages range from 1 ½ to 9 years old. The four eldest are excellent helpers, from base painting to running the light board.
