Dimensions New Music Series
The
Dimensions New Music Series began with one formal
concert in 1980 and grew to a series that included
three concerts on campus each year, a touring
program and occasional concerts that featured
outstanding student performers. Sixty-one (61) guest
composers have been brought to campus to work
with students, lecture, and present master classes.
Some have been here more than once. Most have
been American composers but some have come from as
far away as Canada, Belgium, and Great Britain.
Additionally, the series has presented fifty-five
(55) premieres of new works during its run. In
1977, the series was given a grant from the Center
of Excellence for the Creative Arts to produce a CD
recording of works that were representative of the
best of the series. That CD was sent to all FM
radio stations in the United States and continues to
receive airplay. It was also sent to the
Library of Congress and university music libraries.
Each
academic year, three concerts are presented on
campus in the Music/Mass Communication Building, Concert
Hall of the.
All concerts are free and open to the public.
