Scholarship Awards
All
performance scholarships at Austin Peay State
University carry a work requirement with assignments
determined by the department.
| Art
Scholarships - (Scholarship
Inquiries) |
| Dates |
Portfolios
must arrive in the Department of Art no later
than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2007.
New students are encouraged to visit the
department for a tour and may schedule an
appointment to do so if they are delivering
their portfolio in person (phone number
below). |
| Eligibility |
Current
full-time undergraduates with a minimum GPA of
3.0 and students admitted to Austin Peay for
the 2007-2008 year are eligible to
apply. Students must apply annually and
are eligible to win up to four annual
awards. Competitions will be held at
each class level. All scholarship
applicants must apply for admission to be
considered in the scholarship competition. |
| Awards |
Tuition
credit scholarships are awarded for $500 -
$1,000 per year. Scholarships require
two, three or four hours of departmental
service each week. |
| Criteria |
|
- Scholarships
are awarded partly on the basis of
academic performance. Incoming
first-year students should provide their
high school GPA and SAT or ACT
scores. Transfer and APSU students
should provide their cumulative GPA.
Full-time enrollment is required.
- All
applicants at each level should submit a
portfolio for review. Portfolio
guidelines are available from the
department at the address below.
Hand-delivered portfolios must be
retrieved by hand; portfolios that arrive
by mail will be returned in original
container via UPS at departmental
expense.
- Letters
of recommendation from art instructors are
encouraged, but not necessary, for
transfer and incoming first-year students.

| Music
Scholarships - (Scholarship
Inquiries) |

| Eligibility: |
All
high school graduates with acceptable academic
records and music aptitude, who plan to pursue
studies in the Music Department leading to a
degree in music, are eligible to
audition. All scholarship applicants
must apply for admission to be considered in
the scholarship competition.
Applications must be received two weeks prior
to audition date. |
| Awards: |
Scholarships
in varying amounts are awarded by the
scholarship committee. All awards are
renewable for up to four years (8
semesters). Scholarship recipients are
required to work a maximum of three hours per
week. |
| Criteria: |
|
- Scholarships
are awarded on the basis of talent,
musicianship, academic record and need.
- Candidates
must audition before the scholarship
committee.
- The
audition will consist of one or more
prepared solos.
- Each
candidate will be interviewed by the
scholarship committee.

| Theatre
Scholarships - (Scholarship

Auditions
and interviews will be conducted Saturday,
March 17, 2007, at 3 p.m. and Saturday,
April 14, 2007, at 3 p.m. in the Trahern
Theatre. Individuals who wish to
audition for a scholarship in theatre should
submit an application within one week of the
audition date. |
| Eligibility |
All
high school graduates and transfer students with acceptable academic
records and an aptitude for theatre, who plan
to pursue studies in Theatre Arts leading to a
degree, are eligible to audition. All
scholarship applicants must apply for
admission to be considered in the scholarship
competition. |
| Awards |
Scholarships
of varying amounts are awarded by the
scholarship committee. All awards are
renewable each term upon review of the
student's performance. |
| Criteria |
|
- Scholarships
are awarded on the basis of acting or
technical expertise, academic record and a
willingness to work.
- Acting:
Applicants wishing to audition for an
acting scholarship should bring two (2)
cuttings of no more than two minutes each
- one serious and one light. The
pieces should demonstrate your best
effort. Do not be concerned about
costumes and properties.
- Technical
Theatre: Applicants wishing to be
interviewed for a technical theatre
scholarship in costuming, lighting or set
construction should bring a portfolio of
their work if available.

| Writing
Scholarships (Scholarship

Materials
submitted must be postmarked no later than
March 5, 2007. |
| Eligibility |
Current,
full-time undergraduate students with at least
a 2.5 grade point average and students
admitted to Austin Peay for the 2007-2008 year
with a 2.5 GPA in high school or a 2.5 GPA in
college will be eligible to apply. All
scholarship applicants must apply for
admission to be considered in the scholarship
competition. |
| Awards |
A
limited number of $600 and $1,200 performance
scholarships are awarded annually to full-time
undergraduate students. Scholarship
students work three and six hours per week
respectively in the Creative Writing
Program. Awards are made for one year
only; scholarship holders are encouraged to
submit a new manuscript for each annual
competition (up to four years). |
| Criteria |
|
- Scholarships
are awarded on the basis of excellence in
creative writing.
- Applicants
should submit a manuscript of fiction,
drama and/or poetry. Individual
pieces of writing may be any length, but
the entire entry must be 10 to 20 pages of
typed, double-spaced manuscript. An
excerpt from a work longer than 20 pages
is acceptable.
-
The submission must include a cover sheet
with the applicant's name, address, e-mail
address, and the title(s) of the work(s)
submitted.
- The
applicant's name must not appear on the
manuscript.
- Applicants
will be evaluated, and the winners chosen,
by Austin Peay faculty and an independent
juror.
