Admission as a Non-Degree Seeking Student
Graduates who want to take classes for reasons other than seeking a master’s degree may be allowed to enroll in graduate studies.
This information is meant for students who:
- have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree (APSU students only)
- are not seeking to earn a master’s degree at APSU
- want to take APSU graduate classes and transfer them to another university
All graduate courses are not available to students in the non-degree seeking status. Please consult with the graduate coordinator of the department in which you plan to take courses.
As a non-degree seeking student, if you wish to remain at Austin Peay you will be required to resubmit another application for admission and official transcripts for each and all future semesters/ terms.

Special Graduate Status
Non Degree Status
This status may be granted to applicants who desire to enroll in graduate studies for reasons other than to seek a degree. Some graduate programs will not apply credits earned as an non degree seeking student. Acceptance as an non degree seeking graduate student does not guarantee acceptance into a masters program.
- Application
- One-time, non refundable $25.00 application fee.
- Official bachelors degree transcripts with minimum overall GPA 2.5.
Postgraduate Status
This status is for is for applicants with a master’s degree or greater who are not seeking another degree. You are permitted to take an unlimited number of graduate credits.
- Application
- One-time, non refundable $25.00 application fee.
- You must submit an official masters degree transcript.
Note: Only 9 semester hours will be transferred into program if approved by department.
Transient Status
This graduate status is granted for applicants currently enrolled in a graduate program at another college or university who wishes to take courses at APSU for transfer credit.
- Application
- One-time, non refundable $25.00 application fee.
- Official transcript from current graduate program.
- You may submit a letter of good academic standing from the Dean of Graduate Studies from you primary university in lieu of the official transcript.
Undergraduates Taking Graduate Credits
Senior I Status:
This status is for APSU students only, who are within 9 credit-hours of graduating with a bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students may be eligible to hold a graduate assistantship. Graduate credits may not be applied to the bachelor’s degree.
- Application
- One-time, non refundable $25.00 application fee.
Senior II Status:
This status is for APSU students only, who are within 21 hours of completion of a baccalaureate degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. You are not eligible to hold a graduate assistantship. Graduate credits may not be applied to the bachelor’s degree.
- Application
- One-time, non refundable $25.00 application fee.
- Students can register for one graduate course per semester.
- Reapplication is required each semester.
Selective Admission (psychology):
If you are a senior who has earned 24 credit-hours of undergraduate psychology courses, a minimum 3.0 GPA and at least a 400 on both the verbal and quantitative portions of the GRE, you may be able to take graduate psychology courses and apply credits toward your undergraduate degree.

- These credits cannot be applied toward a graduate degree.
