THE HISTORY OF OUR LOCAL CHAPTER
Pi Mu Epsilon, The National Honorary Mathematics Society, is an organization whose purpose is the promotion of scholarly activity among mathematics students. Pi Mu Epsilon was founded at Syracuse University in 1914. There are now over 300 chapters in North America, located at institutions that have demonstrated a high level of interest in undergraduate mathematical research. Since Pi Mu Epsilon is an honorary society, membership is reserved for those who have excelled in mathematics as well as in their total academic program.
The Tennessee Epsilon chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon was chartered at Austin Peay in November of 1998, recognizing the high standards of the University in the liberal arts and especially in mathematics. Members are inducted twice yearly, Fall and Spring, based on both their achievement in mathematics and their overall academic record.
