Minutes of March 1, 2006 Meeting

Present: Bruce Speck, Gerald Beavers, Deborah Fetch,
Charles Pinder, Harriett McQueen, Diane McDonald, Susan Calovini, David Denton,
Jim Diehr, Diane McDonald, Gaines Hunt, Sean Hogan.
1. Performance
Funding 2005-10 Cycle: Approved Calendar Diane McDonald (Attachment A)
The attached calendar outlines the dates
for major field testing, program reviews, and academic audits. The calendar will be updated annually. Diane made note of the suggested changes and will take
appropriate steps to correct this document.
2. Status
of Academic Inventory Proposals - Diane McDonald (Attachment B)
Diane reviewed the status of the academic
inventory proposals.
3. Developing
a Proposal for 2006-2007 Grant Goals in IETS Diane McDonald
FYI Dr. Hoppe wants each
department/college to develop grant goals for IETS. Diane will provide more information as it
becomes available. Dr. Speck noted that
input from the Deans Council is important to determine what is realistic. It
was suggested that additional grant writing training be provided for
faculty. Diane McDonald will talk with
Ed Davis about training and the possibility of a web page to assist faculty.
4. Update
on
Based on the information from this group,
Dr. Hoppe decided not to submit a proposal to host the
5. Faculty Research Forum Recommendation - Susan Calovini
and Diane McDonald
Dr. Calovini distributed and
reviewed a report regarding improving support of the faculty research
forum.
A motion was made that the Faculty Research Forum project
be offered to the Faculty Senate in an effort to increase faculty attendance. If the faculty senate chooses not to take this
responsibility this year, Academic Affairs will continue with this effort for
one more year only; the motion was seconded, and approved. Dr. Speck will discuss this with the Faculty Senate
President, John Foote.
6.
Mandatory Mid-term Grades - Harriett McQueen
The deans will meet with Patty Mulkeen on March 16;
therefore, this report will be given after that meeting.

- Notification was received that the national
NYSP will not provide funding to APSU this year.
David Denton
- Dr. Denton reported on the Quality Teaching
Summit that he, Phil Roberson, and Bruce Speck attended at MTSU last week.
Jim Diehr
- Asked about the new awards for the Honors
and Awards program Dr. Speck will get more information.
Diane McDonald
- We have received two RALI nominations; each
needs a letter of recommendation from their dean. It should be noted that TBR has requested
that the RALI participants have the deans support to be away from campus
during what may be critical times.
- TBR report of low-producing programs
Diane will contact the deans with low programs.
- Makeba Webb will be sending letters to the
department chairs regarding the MOSAIC program.
- Faculty Handbook Committee recommended that
the changes of the Handbook be presented at the March 29 Deans Council meeting.
Sean Hogan
- Faculty Senate has information regarding
proposed August graduation.
