Minutes of the June 29, 2005 Meeting

Harned 130

Present:  Bruce Speck, Jim Diehr, Charles Pinder, Gaines Hunt, Sean Hogan, Telaina Wrigley, Harriett McQueen, Deborah Fetch

Dr. Hoppe updated the Deans Council of budget and fall enrollment issues.  The deans were advised not to turn away students and were strongly encouraged to get students into on-line courses when campus classes are closed. Deans were reminded to closely monitor fall class enrollments.  Dr. Hoppe announced that previous 100% academic secretaries will be restored to 100%.  The Military Science secretary will remain at 82.5%.  The Department of Mathematics secretary had been at 50% and will be increased to 82.5%.

  1. Academic Advising (Harriett McQueen)

The current advising model is going well.  However, we need to address advising for summer school during summer sessions.  The deans will send an email to department chairs to be available in their offices all day on July 11-12 for advisement.  Harriett McQueen will email the deans requesting the needed information.

  1. APSU 1000 (Harriett McQueen)

      Seven sessions remain unstaffed.

  1. Mileage Pay for Regular Faculty Teaching at APCFC (Gaines Hunt)

Dr. Speck will check with Mitch Robinson on this issue.  A motion was made that travel pay for faculty traveling from their designated teaching site to Fort Campbell Center or main campus not be compensated for travel due to the increase in extra compensation.  The motion was seconded, one negative vote and all others in favor.

  1. Mentors for New Faculty (Charles Pinder)

It was recommended that senior faculty members should be mentors for new faculty and that a formal approach should be implemented.  Dr. Speck asked Dr. Pinder, Dr. Groppel, and Dr. McQueen to provide a proposal at the next Deans Council meeting.  This should be in place by the fall.

  1. Chairs of Excellence (Bruce Speck)

The budget for the Chairs of Excellence should be used each year.  If the Chair of Excellence isn’t filled, the money may be spent on guest speakers or other activities.

  1. Minutes of April 27 (Attachment A); Minutes of June 1 (Attachment B)

A motion was made to approve the minutes as written.  The motion was seconded and all approved.
