  1. Minutes of March 23, 2005 meeting

A motion was made to accept the minutes of March 23, the motion was seconded; all approved.

  1. DSP – Preregistration Change – Harriett McQueen

This is an information item only; not for Deans Council action. We will limit the enrollment of students who are currently enrolled in DSP classes during pre-registration.  They may not enroll in classes for which DSP is a prerequisite until grades of C or better have been posted.  These students may pre-register and then modify their schedules once the DSP courses are passed.  As of today, the system will block students who have not completed DSP requirements from enrolling in courses not included on the established list of classes.

  1. RUN numbers – Sheila Bryant

Run numbers for each faculty member’s advisees may be accessed through web for faculty.  Currently, faculty may only view run numbers for students who they advise.

A motion was made that all faculty have access to all RUN numbers through Web for Faculty, seconded; all approved.

The immediate situation will be addressed by Sheila Bryant sending an email informing faculty how to access RUN numbers.  It was recommended that the deans discuss a long term solution and make a recommendation to the Advising Committee.

  1. Payment of Hybrid Course Development – Stan Groppel

Stan Groppel distributed two documents.  Dr. Speck and Dr. Groppel will discuss before bringing back to the Deans Council.

Dr. Groppel reported that the RODP schedule this semester will be the schedule for the next semester.  Once an RODP course is offered, RODP expects it to be offered each semester.

  1. Annual Return of Library Books – Deborah Fetch

Faculty must return books during the month of April each year to renew their books.  The book must be presented in the library for return or renewal.

  1. Identify Students Needing Criminal Background Checks – Bruce Speck

The deans were asked to identify disciplines within their college that student background checks may be needed due to the nature of their responsibilities.  These disciplines should be emailed to Tammy by Friday, April 8.  The APSU Campus Police will be responsible for the criminal background checks.  Further discussion of centralizing this activity is needed.

  1. Special Liability for Student Workers – Bruce Speck

The deans were asked to identify departments who have student workers who may have special liability issues.  Deans should email Tammy this information by Friday, April 8.

  1. APSU 1000 Instructors

Approximately 30 sections are covered at this time.  The deans were asked to recruit more instructors.

  1. Student Travel Policy – Jennifer Meningall

We have had some problems with processing student travel.  The most common issue is that the requests are not submitted in a timely manner.  If the travel involves funding or not; it is a liability issue for APSU and approval is needed.  The deans were asked to communicate these issues to their departments.

Dr. Meningall noted the following points.

·         Blanket travel requests for students may be submitted.

·         If the off campus event is voluntary, approval is not required.

·         Approximately 10 days are needed to authorize a driver (the information is sent out for drivers check).

·         The liability form provides coverage when the university transports the student.

·         A signed release of liability releases the university if the student is transporting themselves.
