Minutes of April 27, 2005 Meeting

 

 

Present:  Bruce Speck, Gerald Beavers, Stan Groppel, Deborah Fetch, Sean Hogan, Mike Gotcher, Houston Davis, Tom Buttery, Jim Diehr, Gaines Hunt, Charles Pinder.

 

1.         Teaching Load Policy Committee – Bruce Speck

            Gaines Hunt will chair this committee.  Dr. Hunt requested a charge for this committee.

            Dr. Speck, Dr. Davis and Dr. Hunt will meet to discuss.

 

2.         Evaluation of Faculty Advisement – Bruce Speck

Dr. Speck stated that we need to begin an initiative to evaluate faculty advisement and the entire advisement process.  Houston Davis will ask Robbie Robison to attend Deans Council to provide update from the ad hoc advisement committee.

 

3.         Minutes of April 20, 2005 (Attachment A)

A motion was made to approve the minutes after striking sentence in item three regarding suspending the limit of on-line courses; the motion was seconded and approved.

 

Other

 

Bruce Speck

·         TBR will be conducting an Academic Leadership Institute and Phil Moery and Keith Belcher were selected to attend this training institute. 

·         Dr. Speck will address the Faculty Senate Thursday, April 28, at 2 p.m. in UC 307 regarding the electronic dossiers.  The members of Deans Council were invited to attend.

There was a lengthy discussion of the legal issues surrounding dossiers and evaluations.

·         By Friday, April 29, please send Tammy activities and meetings that will occur during the weeks of August 15 – 29. 

Stan Groppel

·         It is not too late to add on-line courses; suggested that retired faculty may be interested in teaching on-line. 

·         Dr. Groppel will inform the Registrar that the ceiling for on-line courses will not be capped in the fall.  Dr. Speck will announce this initiative for increasing enrollment. 

 

Charles Pinder

·         More students needed to apply for scholarships.
