Guest Speaker: Michael A. Henley, CPA
Mr. Henley earned his BBA from Austin Peay State University in 1998.
He now works for Grannis, Whisenant & Associates, P.C. CPA firm
He took the Becker review to prepare for the CPA and passed.
Mr. Henley discussed what he does as a public accountant.
· 60% Tax Planning
· 35% Management Consulting – Reviews and Compilation
· 5% Litigation support
o He also took the time to show some of the programs that he uses in his field work. These included:
· T – Value Program (Time value of money) – this calculates estimates of payments and interests for the accountant.
· Depreciation Program – used in audits to check estimates and calculations.
· Trail Balance Program – ATB – used in audits
· Tax Program – Lacerte –tax planning for individuals, partnerships, or corporations.
o He gave “hands-on” demonstrations of the different programs for members attending.
o Mr. Henley also took resumes for seniors graduating in December that may be interested in public accounting.
