Additional Cancellation Provisions
You are eligible for cancellation of up to 100 percent of your
Perkins Loan for full-time employment as a:
- Nurse providing health care services. Nurse
is defined as a licensed practical nurse, a registered nurse or other
individual who is licensed by the appropriate state agency to provide
nursing services.
- Medical technician providing health care
services. Medical technician is defined as an allied health professional
certified, registered or licensed by the appropriate state agency in
the state in which he or she provides health care services. An allied
health professional is someone who assists, facilitates or complements
the work of physicians and other specialists in the health care system.
- Qualified professional provider of early intervention
servicesin a public or nonprofit program under public
supervision, as defined in section 672(2) of the Individuals with
Disabilities Act.
- Employee of an eligible public or private nonprofit
child or family service agency who is providing or supervising
the provision of services to both high-risk children who are from
low-income communities and the families of such children. Low-income
communities are defined as those in which there is a high concentration
of children eligible to be counted under Title I of the Elementary and
Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended. High-risk children are
defined as individuals younger than age 21 who are low-income or at risk
of abuse or neglect, have been abused or neglected, have serious
emotional, mental or behavioral disturbances, reside in placements
outside their homes or are involved in the juvenile justice system.
A cancellation period consists of a full year of employment. For
borrowers whose loans were made before July 23, 1992, the effective date
of eligibility is Oct. 1, 1998.
