    APSU Science ExpOlympics

Overview

This year's Science ExpOlympics will feature a multitude of competitive events, activities, and demonstrations in the areas of biology, chemistry, geology, math and computer science, and physics, as well as several teacher workshops and the Sites Jeweler's Science Bowl. A registration fee of $5.00 will be required for all high school students attending the Science ExpOlympics; this money will be used to offset the costs of t-shirts that will be awarded to all competitive event winners and door-prize-winners for all activities and demonstrations.

History

The Science ExpOlympics program was first held at APSU in 1983. It was organized on the APSU campus by Dr. John Foote and has subsequently been coordinated by Drs. John D. Foote, Fred J. Matthews,  Lori Slavin, and Carrie Brennan, as well as Ms. Diane Simmons, all members of the Chemistry Department at APSU. The Science ExpOlympics has been held 13 times over the past 22 years with the Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Physics, and Psychology departments at APSU contributing events that have challenged, amused, and been thought provoking to more than 2500 students from over 25 high-schools. The Sites Jewelers' Science Bowl has been won by six different high-schools over the years, including Waverly, Hume-Fogg, Smyrna, Hopkinsville, and Clarksville high schools.
