This activity involves the identification of common insects and arthropods using common (non-scientific) names in a matching style quiz. Also included will be the identification of mimics to correct groups (e.g., wasp, fly, etc.), association of insect predators and their arthropod prey, association of adult and immature insects, and the identification of some major arthropods by common name (e.g. scorpions, various common spiders, wind scorpions, etc.).
Groups of specimens are presented at stations; the individual participants are given a timed interval at each station to respond to the questions at that station. The participants will not be allowed to use identification manuals. This quiz is individually graded. Limited to 25 students per session.
