The purpose of this event is to introduce students to the wonderful world of geology by learning about minerals. Participants in this event will quickly learn some of the simple techniques used by geologists to identify minerals. What will then follow is a mineral identification contest. In this contest, each participant will be given several minerals to identify. Participants will use simple identification techniques to compete with others to be the first to correctly identify all the minerals. After the contest participants will learn of the economic and geologic significance of the minerals.
