Academic Support Center Certification

The Tutor Training Program for the Academic Support Center has earned Level III certification from the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), fewer than 400 programs worldwide have achieved this distinction.

Employee Certification

Full-time employees and Graduate Assistants are encourage to obtain Learning Center Leadership Certification through the National College Learning Center Association (NCLCA).

Academic Support Center student employees earn certification in their various positions. Training for SLA Leaders and Lab Attendants is modeled after the tutor training program and training is certified by the institution.

The following describes the certification process for our employees.

  • Uncertified (new employees): Employees complete 10 hours of training.
  • Certified: In addition to training, employee demonstrates proficiency in required tasks.
  • Advanced Certified: After certification is earned, employee completes 10 additional hours of training.
  • Master Certified: After advanced certification is earned, employee completes 10 additional hours of training.
  • Uncertified (new employee): Employee completes at least 10 hours of training.
  • Certified: In addition to training, employee conducts at least 12 SLA workshops.
  • Advanced Certified: After certification is earned, employee completes 10 additional hours of training and conducts at least 12 additional workshops.
  • Master Certifed: After advanced certification is earned, employee completes 10 additional hours of training and conducts at least 12 additional workshops.
  • Uncertifed (new employee): Employee completes 10 hours of training.
  • Certified: In addition to training, employee conducts at least 25 hours of tutoring.
  • Advanced Certified: After certification is earned, employee completes 10 additional hours of training and conducts at least 25 additional hours of tutoring.
  • Master Certified: Master certified employees continue training, including reviewing current learning support literature. These employees are typically required to assist in training newer employees.
  • Certified: Certification training is designed to insure employees know how to perform the requirements of their position.
  • Advanced Certified: Advanced certification training is designed to insure employees are prepared to support special populations and guide newer employees.
  • Master Certified: Master certification training is designed to prepare employees to serve as supervisors in a learning center.
