Welcome from Dr. Dixie Webb, Chair Department of Art

Welcome to the Department of Art at Austin Peay State University. Our mission is to provide students with a structured, creative environment where they are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems, and take risks while acquiring the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to prepare themselves for advanced study in liberal arts and careers in studio art, art education, graphic design, and illustration. To this end, the department offers art courses for liberal arts students and five degrees specific to art majors: a BA in Studio Art, a BA in Visual Communications, a BA in Art Education, a BFA in Studio Art, and a BFA in Visual Communications with a focus in Graphic Design or Illustration.

The art faculty are practicing artists and accomplished teachers who care about the success of their students. A team of eleven adjunct faculty complements the expertise of the full-time professors and provide a fresh eye and alternate point of view for our students.

All of our degrees are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, ensuring APSU’s Department of Art meets the highest standards. Our classroom offerings are enhanced by an annual series of visiting artists funded through the Center for Excellence in the Creative Arts.
