The department is fortunate to have 5 gallery / exhbition spaces
Trahern Gallery
Located in the Margaret Fort Trahern Art and Drama complex, the Trahern Gallery opened in 1974. Since that time it has featured a wide variety of regional, national and international exhibitions. The active, exhibit calendar changes on a regular basis and provides students and the community the opportunity to view quality, original artforms, first-hand. Gallery hours: 9:00 am – 4 pm, Monday through Friday; 10:00 am – 2 pm, Saturday, and 1:00 – 4:00 pm, Sunday.

Upgrade! Tennessee: New Media From Across the State
Upgrade! Tennessee is part of the international Upgrade! network that is united by art,
technology, and a commitment to bridging cultural divides. This exhibition will feature artist
working with technology from across the state of Tennessee. There will be several
performances on Friday, September 4. Upgrade! Tennessee is sponsored by the Space
for New Media at Tennessee State University and TERMINALapsu.org at Austin Peay State
University and is administered by Jodi Hays, Kell Black and Barry Jones.

Jettison: New Ideas in Abstraction
Lecture: Tuesday, Sept. 8, 7 pm.
Opening Reception follows
Works by artists from New York, Tennessee, Germany, and England that explore new trends in the language of abstraction. Artists include Tiffany Calvert, Martha Clippinger, Hamlett Dobbins, Jeff Hand, James Hyde, Merlin James, Suzanne Joelson, Jasmine Justice, Jonathan Lasker, Thomas Nozkowski, Jochen Plogsties, Wes Sherman, Josh Smith, Jered Sprecher, Gary Stephan, Terry Thacker, Wendy White. Curated by Warren Greene. Mark Scala, chief curator of Frist Center for the Visual Arts will be giving an opening lecure at 7pm. Reception will follow.

Modern Light: Selections from the Jim and Nan Robertson collection at APSU
Lecture: Monday, Oct. 5, 7 pm
The collection, donated by Jim and Nan Robertson contains significant mid-century
photographs by such artists as Bruce Barnbaum, Ruth Bernhard, Bill Brandt, Michael
Kenna, and André Kertész. Curated by Susan Bryant. Independent curator and art critic
Susan Knowles will be giving an opening lecture.

Homecoming Alumni Show
An open exhibition of APSU alumni. The exhibit will be open from 11 am – 4 pm Saturday,
October 31st. There will be a reception on the front lawn of Trahern during the show (11
am – 4 pm)

Dermabrasions
Opening Reception: Monday, Nov. 9, 7pm
Current works by APSU faculty member Warren Greene. Greene’s abstract oil panels are
characterized by slick, highly refined surfaces and brooding tonalities. These works are
developed through an open-ended process that makes extensive use of scraping,
sanding, and glazing.

Downtown Gallery
Opening November 5
Mabel Larson Gallery
Located on the first floor of Harned Hall – a historic building in the center of the campus, this large, attractive gallery features selections from the Austin Peay State University permanent art collection. Artworks in this gallery are changed periodically, but have a longer display time than works in the Trahern Gallery. Gallery hours: 8:00 am – 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Open during the summer.
Terminal
Terminal is an on-line gallery sponsored by theDepartment of Art
and the Center for the Creative Arts at Austin Peay State University to showcase and examine internet and new media art.
Student Gallery
Located in Trahern 108, the Student Gallery houses the senior solo exhibitions of students completing the BFA program at APSU.
