Dr. Jill Franks, professor of English, was editor of “Ladies of Lawrence,” a special edition of the D. H. Lawrence Review, Vol. 39, Number 1, published in May, 2015.  This collection of essays by women critics begins with Franks’ Introduction, called “Ecriture Féminine and Women Lawrence Critics,” and includes seven other essays.  These essays range in subject matter from Lawrence’s effect on one writer’s (Dr. Carol Siegel) personal philosophy, to a stylistic analysis of love scenes, to Lawrence’s relationship with the Alps. The purpose of the volume is to celebrate the strength of female and feminist scholarship on this worthy author.   All of the papers originated as presentations at the 13th International D. H. Lawrence Conference in Gargnano, Italy, in June 2014.  The conference was situated at the picturesque place of Lawrence and Frieda’s honeymoon and sojourn in 1912-13.
