The Austin Peay State University/Clarksville Community Concert Artist Series opens with a performance by NEXUS Percussion.

Called “the high priests of percussion” by The New York Times, NEXUS Percussion will take the stage at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 19, in APSU's music/mass communication building concert theatre.

The first, entirely improvised NEXUS concert in 1971 marked the formation of a group that would touch and entertain people of all levels of musical learning, in all genres of percussion music. Bob Becker, Bill Cahn, Robin Engelman, Russell Hartenberger and Garry Kvistad—all virtuosos alone—stand out in the contemporary music scene for their innovation, their revival of 1920s novelty ragtime xylophone music and their influential improvisatory ideas.

The series lineup also includes the American Brass Quintet (Nov. 4), baritone Charles Edwin Taylor (Jan. 23), Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (Feb. 14), Ensemble Amarcord (March 1) and the 44th Annual Mid-South Jazz Festival featuring Kurt Elling (April 9).

For the best ticket value, purchase a series membership before Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Tickets to individual concerts are $25 adults, $12 students.

The concert is sponsored by the APSU/Clarksville Community Concert Artist Series and APSU's Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts.
