Dr. Ron Robertson was named Exemplary Faculty Member of the Year, Blanche Wilson was named Exemplary Staff Member of the Year and Andy Kean was chosen Student Organization Adviser of the Year at the Student Organization & Leader Awards ceremony held on campus Thursday, April 10.

Winners were chosen on the basis of student nominations.

The student who nominated Dr. Ron Robertson, associate professor of chemistry, started her nomination by saying what Robertson is not. "He is not a professor who is unable to be found when difficult homework problems arise, nor is he a professor who expects more from his students than he is willing to give. Most importantly, he is not a professor who views teaching as a secondary responsibility. Educating students is not just what Dr. Robertson doesit is who he is."

She went on to praise Robertson's work ethic, enthusiasm and ability to "transform chemistry from a difficult and abstract concept to something that everyday people can not only understand but also enjoy."

Andy Kean, director of the UC, was nominated by members of the Student Government Association for the "countless hours" he spends with that organization, as well as his knowledge, guidance and leadership. "Andy Kean is much more than an adviser. He is one of those people that genuinely cares about students and their growth," the nomination said. "Andy wants to make sure we are having fun with SGA, but he also knows how to get us working and moving forward toward the future."

Blanche Wilson, director of student life and leadership, is "an exceptional addition to the department of student life and leadership," according to her nomination. "Ms. Blanche has always been incredibly helpful, positive and supportive," the writer noted. She makes a huge effort to be available to students, contributes to the success of student events and has "an overwhelming love for students and their ideas, problems and needs."

Winners received plaques in recognition of their contributions. The awards are sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs.
