Directed by Sara Gotcher, associate professor of theater at APSU, “Wiley and the Hairy Man” is set deep within the mysterious Tombigbee swamp. Written by Susan Zeder, the play centers around young Wiley, his conjuring mother, his faithful hound dog and the Hairy Man who haunts Wiley's days and dreams.

Through rhythm and rhyme, a chorus of “Swamp Things” creates the mystery of the swamp and the magic of the earth. In an exciting duel of wits, Wiley learns to rely upon his own resources and conquers his adolescent fears, which have culminated in the Hairy Man.
