Student Affairs executive new president of SACSA

Dr. Sherryl Byrd, associate vice president for student affairs and senior student affairs officer at Austin Peay State University, has been installed as president of the Southern Association of College Student Affairs (SACSA). She has completed a term as president-elect and will serve a year as past president for a three-year commitment as a member of the Executive Council.
Dr. Sherryl Byrd, associate vice president for student affairs and senior student affairs officer at Austin Peay State University, has been installed as president of the Southern Association of College Student Affairs (SACSA). She has completed a term as president-elect and will serve a year as past president for a three-year commitment as a member of the Executive Council.

Byrd has been a member of SACSA since 1984. She has held other leadership positions to include vice president of professional development, Strategic Planning Task Force, Time and Place chair, Issues and Awareness Committee chair, Awards and Recognition Committee chair and presented programs at the annual conference. She has served a three-year appointment as a member of the Foundation Board of Directors. She also was the recipient of the SACSA Founders Award for Outstanding Dissertation in 1995.

Established in 1950, SACSA is a regional association that represents members from 15 states and the District of Columbia. The Southern Association for College Student Affairs is a generalist organization for practitioners, educators and students engaged in the student affairs profession. SACSA provides opportunities for professional development through the annual conference and the Mid-Managers and New Professionals Institutes, and it promotes scholarship, research and ethical practice, including publication of the peer reviewed College Student Affairs Journal. -- Melony Shemberger
