Stand-up comedy featuring Muslim performer Thursday

The Austin Peay State University Govs Programming Council and the Global Govs Passport Series present a night of stand-up comedy with Iranian-American Tissa Hami.

Hami will take the stage at 5:30 p.m., March 5 in the Morgan University Center Ballroom. The event is open to the public.

Hami is one of the worlds few female Muslim stand-up comics. Hami hopes that her unique act and fresh perspective will help dissolve stereotypes about Muslim women and foster understanding between Iranians and Americans.

Hami grew up in a traditional Iranian family in a predominantly white suburb of Boston. She has appeared on television and radio as well as in comedy clubs around the country, including a documentary for PBS. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in international affairs from Ivy League universities.
