The Austin Peay State University Department of Music and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will host a spring concert featuring the University Choir and Chamber Singers.

The performance will begin at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 27 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Karen Kenaston-French, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at APSU, will conduct the performance. Wil Houchens and Sylvia Carver will serve as accompanists. Francis Massinon will assist on horn and Mingzhe Wang on clarinet. Both are professors of music at APSU.

“The (performance) will feature several colorful pieces from around the world. Of particular interest are ‘Evenin' Time,' an upbeat Jamaican folk tune that portrays laborers on their journey home after work, ‘Magnificent Horses,' a setting of a Chinese folk tune in which the choir mimics Asian instruments by singing nonsense syllables and ‘Kalinda,' a piece in Creole by a young Haitian composer, featuring a virtuoso performance by the Chamber Singers,” said Kenaston-French.

The University Choir will perform “Psalm 23” in memory of Britanie Claytor, an APSU freshman voice major who was in the choir and passed away in an auto accident earlier this year. Massinon will accompany this performance.

Wang will accompany the Chamber Singers on “O Quam Gloriosum” by Howard Helvey.

Senior music education student Jordan Stewart will conduct the University Choir in “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need.”
