Austin Peays Community School of the Arts is offering life-enriching courses for all ages, including newborns, beginning in January.

Austin Peay's Community School of the Arts is offering life-enriching courses for all ages, including newborns, beginning in January.

This semester's lineup includes the following classes:

Kindermusik

•“Kindermusik Village” engages the senses of children from newborn to 18 months. It rewards curiosity with object and instrument exploration, vocal play, singing, creative movement and a literature component. Classes will meet at 10:30 a.m., Fridays, Jan. 9-May 7, in APSU's music/mass communication building, room 229. The course fee is $125. The materials fee will be announced. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 19.
•“Kindermusik Our Time” focuses on motor development, allowing children from 18 months to three years an opportunity to play instruments, learn finger plays, move to music and sing. Classes will meet at 10:30 a.m., Saturdays, Jan. 10-May 8, in APSU's music/mass communication building, room 229. The course fee, including materials, is $175. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 19.

Piano and Violin

•“Class Piano for Adults” covers the basics of reading music and piano technique, allowing students 18 and older to explore classical and popular music styles. Classes will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Thursdays, Feb. 12-April 8, in APSU's music/mass communication building piano lab. The course fee is $125, which does not
include the materials fee.
•“Suzuki Violin & Piano” employs the Suzuki method. Classes, which are open to students 3 1/2 and older, will meet from Jan. 12-May 7. The course fee for Suzuki violin is $330. Suzuki piano fee is $280.
•Violin classes will meet Mondays, Jan. 12-May 7. The course is open to ages 6 and older, and costs $280.
•Piano lessons for ages 7 and up will be taught from Jan. 12-May 7. The cost is $280.

Guitar and Flute

•Guitar lessons for ages 7 and up will be taught from Jan. 12-May 7. The cost is $280.
•The High School Flute Choir is open to high school flutists with a minimum of two years experience. Students will develop musicianship and performance skills in a small ensemble setting and perform with the APSU Flute Choir. Classes will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 13-April 27. The course fee is $60.

Voice

•Voice lessons for ages 13 and up will be taught Jan. 12-May 7. The course fee is $280.

Photography

•“Intro to Photography Workshops” teach beginners 15 and older the basics of photography, including composition, developing and darkroom techniques. Classes will meet from 6-8 p.m., Mondays, Jan. 28-March 17, in APSU's Trahern Building. The course fee is $35 per workshop and does not include lab fees. Students will attend two class sessions for each workshop.
•“Just Shoot Me” covers the fundamentals of taking great pictures, including lenses, composition and photographic techniques. Requires two rolls of film and any camera. This workshop will meet Jan. 26 and Feb. 2.
•“Developing Negatives” takes the beginner into the darkroom. One completed roll of black and white film is required. This workshop will meet Feb. 9 and 16.
•“Developing Prints” teaches students to develop negatives into prints. This workshop will meet Feb. 23 and March 1.
•“Composition Part Two” is a follow-up workshop teaching advanced techniques of photograph composition and developing. This workshop will meet March 15 and 22.
•“Alternative Photography Processes” explores one of the latest photographic development techniques during each session. The course, which is open to advanced photographers 15 and older, will meet from 6-8 p.m., Mondays, March 29-May 17, in APSU's Trahern Building. The course fee is $125. The lab fee of $20 may be paid the
first night of class.

Art

•Private art lessons for ages 6 and up will be taught Jan. 12-May 7 in APSU's Trahern Building. The course fee is $280 and does not include the materials fee.

Crafts

•Basket weaving classes teach beginners the fundamentals. Students will complete five baskets, each emphasizing different techniques. Participants must be at least 15. Classes will meet from 6-8 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 20-March 16, in APSU's Trahern Building. The course fee is $125. The $40 lab fee may be paid during the first class.

Health

•The Alexander Technique is a method of redirecting tension and poor body-use habits into more natural coordination and useful energy. The course will be offered to students 18 and older from 6-7 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 27-March 16, in APSU's music/mass communication building, room 229. The course fee is $125.

Class sizes are limited, so reserve your space today. All fees must be paid by Jan. 12. Time and location will be arranged upon registration unless otherwise noted.
