Plaudits

Lori Buchanan, professor and instructional services librarian, Lissett Rassi-Bahamonde, information research technician in the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, and Greg Schutz, director of the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, delivered the paper Measuring Student Experiential and Academic Assimilation in a First-Year Seminar Course this month at the Tennessee Association of Institutional Research annual conference. Schutz also was elected the groups vice president.

Schutz also was elected the group's vice president.

Dr. John Butler, professor emeritus of biology, signed copies of the latest edition of “Historic Clarksville 1784-2004” Aug. 14 at Borders Books and Music Café. Butler wrote and edited the second edition. Dr. Charles Waters, professor emeritus of history, wrote and edited the first edition. In addition, Debbie Denton, assistant director for marketing, edited the Gallery of Business, to which Rebecca Mackey, APSU communication specialist, was a freelance contributor. Copies are available at the campus bookstore.

Dr. Samuel Fung, chair of the psychology department, presented two workshops July 13 at National Changhua University of Education, Taiwan (a sister university of APSU). The workshops were titled “Social Psychology and Special Education,” sponsored by the Special Education Department, and “Social and Community Psychology,” sponsored by the Graduate Institute of Science Education.

Dr. David Steele, sociology instructor, successfully defended his dissertation on Aug. 4. His newly minted doctorate is from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
