Plaudits

Dr. Yuiry Bulka, Dr. Jim Vandergriff and Dr. Nell Rayburn, all faculty members in the APSU
Department of Mathematics, accompanied four students to the Mathematical Association of America
Southeastern Sectional Meeting, held March 28-29 at The Citadel in South Carolina. The students – Amy
Dexter, Caleb Wherry, Michael Northington and Robert French
– competed in the Math Jeopardy
contest against students from other universities, some of which were much larger. Dr. Yuiry Bulka, Dr. Jim Vandergriff and Dr. Nell Rayburn, all faculty members in the APSU
Department of Mathematics, accompanied four students to the Mathematical Association of America
Southeastern Sectional Meeting, held March 28-29 at The Citadel in South Carolina. The students — Amy
Dexter, Caleb Wherry, Michael Northington and Robert French
— competed in the “Math Jeopardy”
contest against students from other universities, some of which were much larger.
Dexter presented a paper, titled “Collective Behaviors,” and was awarded the Patterson Prize for the top
student paper in her session.
Rayburn presented a short course, titled “Active Learning Strategies for the College Liberal Arts
Mathematics Course.” Bulka served as a session judge, and Vandergriff served as program chair for the
meeting.
