A longtime Austin Peay State University employee now leads the University's Office of Public Relations and Marketing as the new executive director.

Bill Persinger, director for graphic design, began his new duties June 2. He succeeded Dennie B. Burke, who retired May 30 following 22 years of service that spanned the administrations of five presidents and one interim president.

Persinger, a Clarksville native and 1991 APSU alumnus, has been director for graphic design since 2001. Shortly after receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, he began in APSU's PR office as a graphic designer. He quickly progressed to graphic design coordinator, graphic design manager and assistant director before becoming “second in command” as director.

During his tenure at APSU, Persinger has been involved in many significant developments, from launching the University's first Web site graphic on www.apsu.edu to heading marketing campaigns that resulted in large recruitment increases for APSU.

From 2004-05, he was involved in promoting the first marketing of online courses, giving way to another recruiting boom. Persinger was charged in promoting the University's first comprehensive signage communication plan for the main campus.

Persinger's graphic design work has garnered many awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Tennessee College Public Relations Association (TCPRA). He also has taught graphic design at APSU. -- Melony A. Jones
