Oyen-Larsen to lead Armed Forces Day choral tribute

Valerie Oyen-Larsen, music instructor and director of the Clarksville Community Chorus, will conduct a musical tribute to local military families for Armed Forces Day.

The Chorus and singers from the Madison Street Church of Christ will perform at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 15, at the church, located at 523 Madison St.

The Chorus and singers from the Madison Street Church of Christ will perform at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 15, at the church, located at 523 Madison St.

The concert will feature “God Bless America” sung by Dr. George Mabry, professor emeritus of music, and “America the Beautiful” performed by Oyen-Larsen. Other patriotic tunes on the program include “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “This Is My Country,” “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

The concert also will feature a special performance by the Clarksville Academy Kidzchorus, directed by Lisa Conklin-Bishop. Anne Glass, professor of music at APSU, will provide keyboard accompaniment.

The concert is free and open to the public.
