National Alumni Association sponsors Career Connections Seminar

The Austin Peay National Alumni Association sponsored the first of what will be an annual Career Explorations and Connections Seminar on the evening of Monday, Oct. 13.

Shelia Boone, director of alumni and annual giving, said, Our primary purpose in sponsoring this event was to improve the link between students and alumni. Through this event, alumni will be able to provide valuable career information to students and others.

The Austin Peay National Alumni Association sponsored the first of what will be an annual Career Explorations and Connections Seminar on the evening of Monday, Oct. 13.

Shelia Boone, director of alumni and annual giving, said, “Our primary purpose in sponsoring this event was to improve the link between students and alumni. Through this event, alumni will be able to provide valuable career information to students and others.”

Designed primarily for students, the sessions also were open to the public. A reception for alumni guests, students and other attendees was held at 6 p.m. in the lobby of the music/mass communication building.

At 6:30 p.m. in the concert theatre of the building, Wayne Pace, Atlanta and New York City, gave the keynote address. Pace was given a Key to the City by Joe Pitts, director of Economic Services for the City of Clarksville, and Kevin Hackney, Nashville, president of APSUNAA.

A 1968 graduate of APSU with an accounting major, Pace is the executive vice president and chief financial officer for the international conglomerate, AOL Time Warner Inc. After his talk, Pace answered questions from the audience.

Afterwards, there were breakout sessions by area of interest, with each one featuring one of more alumni guests. Guests included Dianne Green, literacy coach for the Clarksville Montgomery County School System; Lori Ann William, English teacher, Clarksville High School; Katie Robinson, patient representative and assistant office manager, Clarksville OB-GYN Associates, P.C.; Kathy Maddox, RN, BSN, CCRA, president/CEO, Alpha Clinical Research, LLC, Clarksville; Mike Carrigan, MD, FACP, FACPE, CPE, internal medicine, Premier Medical Group, Clarksville; Richard Ribeiro, DD, associate dentist (general), Hillcrest Dental Associates, Clarksville; Christy Webb Ruff, DVM, associate veterinarian, Animal Hospital, Clarksville; Karyn Bryant, attorney (employment litigation), Boult, Cummings, Conners and Berry, Nashville; Nancy Washington, assistant general counsel, Tennessee Board of Regents, Peter Minetos, president and CEO, Diversified Computer Solutions Inc., Atlanta; David Alford, professional actor, author, founder and artistic director for Mockingbird Theatre, Nashville; Paul Binkley, composer, musician, producer, acoustic guitarist for legendary musical group “Alabama"; Beverly Parker, professional photographer; Marty Gentry, Pharm.D.; pharmacist, Dickson Apothecary; Dr. Jaime Taylor, professor of physics and department chair, APSU; Christy Batts, executive director, Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce; Jeremy Corley, senior financial consultant, US Bancorp, Clarksville; Wilma Newton, CPA; vice president, Information Technology; Ascension Health, St. Louis.

“We are fortunate to have many talented and highly successful alumni,” Boone
said. “And we're honored to have many of them participating in this special event.

“We appreciate their being so generous with their time in to ‘give back' to their alma mater and to share a wealth of knowledge gained through years in the workplace.”
