Metzger wins Public Links qualifier spot

APSU golf standout Justin Metzger, who will be a junior in 2005-06, captured the 36-hole U.S. Amateur Public Links sectional qualifying tournament played June 22 at Harpeth Hills Golf Club.

Metzger, of Lenoir City, shot a 69-67=136 to claim one of two qualifier spots in the 85-player field for the 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links championships, July 11-16, at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio. The Public Links winner traditionally has received a spot in the Masters.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Justin,” said APSU Coach Kirk Kayden. “To think he beat out right at 80 golfers, he just played amazing golf.”
